What's New

  • Every year AAAS recognizes two outstanding academics who have demonstrated commitment to the advancement of underrepresented minorities in higher education through their extraordinary mentoring activities. We have included information about the 2001 AAAS Mentor Awards here as well as a list of prior award winners. The two categories are Lifetime Mentor Award (a $5,000 prize) and Mentor Award (a $2,500 prize).
  • The Commission on Professionals in Science and Technology (CPST) has recently released an edited volume of essays, Scientist and Engineers for the New Millennium: Renewing the Human Resources, available online at http://www.cpst.org/S&Es%20for%20the%20New%20Milennium.htm. The collection grows out of an all-day symposium organized for the 2000 annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. It addresses the problems associated with the need for the U.S. to diversify its workforce in order to ensure that it maintains its strong leadership role in the world economy in the years to come.
  • A new comprehensive bibliography of works related to minorities and women in science, engineering and mathematics education is now available on our web site at http://ehrweb.aaas.org/mge/bibl.html. This bibliography is a byproduct of the study group meeting sponsored by AAAS in September 2000. A summary of the study meeting will also be available here soon!
